Define the condition standard before searching
“Used car” covers a wide range of vehicle histories and conditions. A buyer should state the acceptable model-year range, maximum mileage, repair tolerance, cosmetic standard, required equipment, and budget direction before options are collected.
Without these limits, a sourcing team may return vehicles that are technically the same model but commercially unsuitable for the buyer’s market.
Mileage should be reviewed with the rest of the vehicle
Mileage is an important data point, but it is not a complete condition assessment. Buyers should review the displayed mileage together with service information when available, visible wear, interior condition, tire condition, warning lights, and the general consistency of the vehicle.
Photographs and video should show the actual vehicle being discussed. Generic catalogue images do not support a used-vehicle condition decision.
Request a structured evidence set
The available material varies, but a practical review may request:
- VIN or chassis identification when available
- Odometer display
- Exterior walk-around images or video
- Interior, seats, controls, and instrument panel
- Engine bay and visible underbody areas when available
- Tire condition
- Visible scratches, dents, repairs, or replaced parts disclosed by the supplier
- Start-up and basic function video when feasible
- Document information relevant to export
The buyer should identify any required independent inspection before payment or shipment. Remote material helps with review but cannot guarantee every hidden mechanical or historical issue.
Match the quotation to the actual vehicle
A used-vehicle quotation should identify the specific vehicle or a clearly defined replacement condition. It should not rely only on a model name and a low price.
Check the model year, trim, mileage, color, VIN status, known condition points, included work, trade term, and shipment scope. If repairs, cleaning, maintenance, or accessory installation are included, record them clearly.
Review document context early
A used vehicle may require a different document discussion from a new vehicle. Ask what vehicle and export documents are expected for the proposed transaction and when they can be confirmed.
The buyer must also verify destination-country age limits, emissions or conformity rules, import permission, tax, and registration requirements with a qualified local party. These rules change and should not be inferred from a previous shipment or another country.
Use a clear acceptance standard
Before selecting a vehicle, write down what would make the option unacceptable. Examples include mileage above a limit, structural repair, missing key equipment, warning lights, unacceptable interior damage, or documents that do not fit the buyer’s import process.
A written acceptance standard helps the China-side team filter vehicles and reduces disagreement later.
